DMC: "Worrying About Worrying" by Vivian Kirkfield
Worrying About Worrying
Psychophysiological
Insomnia
I can’t
sleep.
Perhaps I’ll try
to count
sheep.
What if they fall
when they
leap?

J. Patrick Lewis has challenged us to write a zeno this month. What's a zeno, you ask? Click HERE for details.
To join in the fun, send yours to TodaysLittleDitty (at) gmail (dot) com, or use the contact form in the sidebar to the right. All zenos will be included in the wrap-up celebration on October 31st, and one lucky participant will win a copy of Pat's gorgeous, new, "best of" collection:

I'm embarrassed to admit (feeling sheepish, even) that this little ditty hits home for me, Vivian. Insomnia is no fun, but I love the humor in your zeno, and also that you found an 8 syllable word for your first line– wow!
ReplyDeleteYup..that was a challenge...but in Renee's class, we did a couple of assignments where I had to find long multi-syllable words...and I love them in a poem.
DeleteLove it! Maybe it's because I have insomnia all too often, but this might be my favorite zeno yet. Har har about feeling sheepish, Michelle :-)
ReplyDeleteFunny -- I was just reading a poem by Rumi about worrying. I feel like today's poem is sending me a message. Stop worrying! Everything will be fine whether you worry or not.
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting up my zeno, Michelle. It was lots of fun to write!
ReplyDeleteAnd Author Amok's comment reminds me of that song: Don't Worry - Be Happy. :)
When I can't sleep, I get up and clean out a drawer.
I love it! You did a fantastic job, Vivian!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kristi...I'd never HEARD of a zeno...thanks to Michelle and Today's Little Ditty, I now know how to write one. ;) It was challenging and lots of fun.
DeleteInsomnia and worrying two things I'm very familiar with. This is great Vivian! I still need to have a go at this form.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see yours, Catherine! You turned me on to Haiku...and now I know Zenos...where will this craziness end. ;) :)
DeleteBrilliant first word. Is that what happens with insomnia? Love how you wrote this.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda...I was thrilled to join in...I've loved all the zenos I've read here so far.
DeleteGreat poem. Unfortunately I relate to this all too well. 8-(
ReplyDeleteI think insomnia and writing go together sometimes, Rosi...it's those fast fleeting ideas that keep us up. ;)
DeleteToo funny--great how you brought the worrying in to your insomnia poem:>)
ReplyDeleteHahaha...haven't YOU thought about those poor sheep, Laura...some of them must trip and fall, wouldn't think? :)
