DMC: "A Field Mouse Meets an Owl at Midnight" by Laura Purdie Salas
A Field Mouse Meets an Owl at Midnight
I hear the hollow warning call
just before a
feathered
sky
drops down around
my small
cry.
EEK! I squeak. It's
no good-
bye–

Very cute, Laura!
ReplyDeleteI love feathered sky and the imagery of this encounter.
ReplyDeleteI also love that 'feathered sky', oh my!
ReplyDeleteLove this one and the pictures it evokes!
ReplyDeleteI am in awe of how sensory rich this short poem is-- the hollow call, the feathered sky, the squeaked EEK-- and that you've managed to tell a complete story in this captured moment. Don't get me started about how clever your ending is too! So well done, Laura.
ReplyDeletePoor mousie! Love the feathered sky, the clever good-bye.
ReplyDeleteI "EEK" for this poor mouse pip-squeak. His goodbye is cut off! Excellent zeno, Laura!
ReplyDeleteThanks, you guys. I am LOVING this new form:)
ReplyDelete"Feathered sky." Beautiful image. I like this very much.
ReplyDeleteTHanks, Rosi (that was the phrase that kind of led me into the poem! Thanks, Michelle, for sharing my zeno:>)
ReplyDeleteI had the same thought as Buffy! Love your imagery, Laura!
