DMC: "The Escape" by Janie Lazo

An empty cage- a door agape
One hamster gone- a great escape
A frantic search- no clues in sight
No fond farewell - a senseless plight
For safe and sound- one hamster sat
Guarded closely - by our cat

Diana Murray has challenged us to write a poem about an unlikely hero this month. Click HERE for more details.

Post your poem on our August 2016 padlet. All contributions will be included in a wrap-up celebration this Friday, August 26th, and one lucky participant will win a personalized copy of her fun new picture book from Roaring Brook Press:

  1. Did this really happen, Janie? I can't help but wonder if there might have been an ulterior motive? In my imagination, there is a distinct glint in this cat's eye. Great job!

  2. Awwww! That is so sweet! True story?

  3. Oh, this is really good, Janie. I love your rhythm. ;) And your language is awesome. ;)

  4. That is too cute! Thanks for the laugh. Always need one of those.

  5. This actually happened. The cat had him cornered but didn't hurt him. After this incident the cat would always lay by the cage when we left.

    1. What a great story! There's a picture book here waiting to be born, Janie.

  6. Love it! And so fun to read. Great rhymes. I think our hamster, Coconut, would love this one. :)

  7. Wonderful poem :)

  8. Since I am in Kuaui this week I would like to say Mahalo to you all. So happy you enjoyed my poem.
