DMC: "The Brave Remora" by Buffy Silverman

THE BRAVE REMORA

A shark never dons a fedora,
but frequently wears a remora,
that clings to his back
without fearing attack,
while nibbling shark’s fauna and flora.

  1. Love it! Buffy receives the "Most Ingenious Use of the Word 'Remora' in a Poem" Award!

  2. Wonderful, and isn't the shark the remora's hero too?

    1. Probably more so...I played a little loose with the facts on this one, since the whole symbiosis notion is apparently not proven. The remora definitely benefits with transportation and oxygen, the shark maybe gets parasites removed, or maybe just tolerates the remora or can't shake it off. But I went with the better story. It does indeed sound fishy...

  3. Such a clever poem. I do love a good limerick and this is a good one. Thanks, Buffy!

  4. Well done, Buffy! For someone who was casting about for ideas just a few days ago, you sure managed to reel in a great little ditty! Love the fun, limerick format for this unlikely hero.

    1. My latest gig is writing about sharks-couldn't find a place for the remoras in that, so I'm glad for this opportunity!
