DMC: "Their-there-they're" by Tabatha Yeatts

Sung to the tune of "Do-Re-Mi" by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Their-there-they're

Let's start at the very beginning
A very good place to start
When you read you begin with A-B-C

When you write you begin with their-there-they're
(their-there-they're)

Their-there-they're
The first three words happen to be their-there-they're
Their-there-they're

Their-There-They're-Its-It's-Your-You're-
(Oh, let's see if I can make it easier)

Their- belongs, belongs to them
There- a place where you can go
They're- is only when they are
Its
- is something it can show
It's- is solely when it is
Your- is something just for you
You're- you are the way it is
Sometimes only their will do (oo-oo-oo)

(Repeat)

When you know the words to write
Then you can write to delight

  1. A great way to end this month of parody poems, by starting at the very beginning! Thanks for the poem-- ever so helpful, Tabatha. :)

  4. This is really fun. I remember when I went to graduate school, and one of my professors announced on the first day of class that if anyone used the incorrect form of their-they're-there in a paper, he or she would automatically fail the class. We really watched our grammar and spelling!

  5. Tabatha (and anyone else interested), have you seen this hilarious video about #wordcrimes? Weird Al has done it again! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Gv0H-vPoDc&feature=youtu.be

  6. Tabatha, you are brilliant, lady. I love "You're -- you are the way it is." Something very zen about that.
