TORNADO
Rains pelt, winds whip, fears unfold,
turbulent thunder storms brewing,
looking for funnel clouds as the
sky turns a greenish grey.
An eerie quiet
descends.
Take

Post your poem on our October 2017 padlet. While some contributions will be featured as daily ditties this month, all contributions will be included in a wrap-up celebration this Friday, October 27th, and one lucky participant will win a personalized copy of her enchanting new picture book from Holiday House:
Well done, Kathy! Even though I only remember one tornado scare as a child, there have been plenty of nightmares. I blame The Wizard of Oz for that!
ReplyDeleteI've been there, Kathy! Living in Missouri we all knew about that scary "greenish-gray" sky and the "eerie quiet". Love your shape, too!
ReplyDeleteVery clever! I am heading to the basement after reading this.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness-brings back vivid memories of basement huddles.
ReplyDeleteI like the format though I sheepishly admit it took me a second (not sure why since it's obvious!)--I was trying to figure out if you had used a poetry form, so I was counting syllables and words and lines to see what you did. :)
The last four lines are awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis poem takes me to a scary place I have been to. You describe it too well. Love the shape of the verse and how it leads to the conclusion.
ReplyDeleteKathy, I'm right there in the eye of your funnel cloud! Thanks for capturing me, and sharing this scary experience and poem. The shape adds to the building disaster.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Minnesota and this poem nails it. Perfect. And I love the shape. Great job, Kathy!
