Pencils peering out
waiting patiently for
their purpose, or a
person’s poppycock to
not so pleasingly pour
out… But wait there’s more,
those indescribable
words winding off their points,
even poppycock might
please an unpretentious
pencil. And still more…
The sketch that dances off
the tip, sends the tool
into a tizzy for
an eternity, till…
Exhausted, pencil
rests, catches breath, and waits
again patiently,
with fellow pencils to
be discovered once more…

So now I know your secret, Michelle– magic pencils... "words winding off their points" <– love that!
ReplyDeleteAw To bad, many thanks though!
DeleteSince most of what flows out of my pencil is poppycock, I enjoyed a big smile with this one.
ReplyDeleteMichelle K. has not a way with pencils, but at least two ways with them - cool sketch artist, she is.
Thanks Jan! Dashing off now to help some students with both writing and sketching in my Children's Picture Book Class...
ReplyDeleteYour sharp little ditty drew a grin on my face too Michelle K! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks Damon!
DeleteI think my pencils may be staging a revolt due to neglect. Sad pencils who just want to fill pages with silly poems deserve some of my attention! Thanks for your poetic reminder.
ReplyDeleteThanks Janie, all the best with your pencils and silly poems.
DeleteThis is terrific. I particularly love the last stanza. Thanks for this poem.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rosi, and what a great ditty prompt we were given!
DeleteThis poem if lovely. It made me take a look at my pen cup with new eyes!
