DMC: From Mary Lee Hahn's Refrigerator

There Was an Old Dragon Who Swallowed . . .
Things from my refrigerator.
Albert Allen’s alligator.

Mr. Tobin’s fresh grown squash.
Edamame succotash.

Bacon, sausage, juicy steak,
Pudding, pies, and birthday cake.

Gold Rush apples, heirloom beets,
free-range eggs, organic meats.

Mary Lee adds: "This is an accurate snapshot of the inside of my refrigerator at the moment!"

Penny Parker Klostermann has challenged us to write one to four couplets following her example– things we might feed a dragon to avoid being swallowed ourselves.  Click HERE for more details.

Send your couplets to TodaysLittleDitty (at) gmail (dot) com, or use the contact form in the sidebar to the right. All contributions will be included in a whopper of a cumulative poem featured at our wrap-up celebration on Friday, August 28th.  One lucky participant will win a personalized copy of Penny's deliciously funny debut picture book:

  1. Thanks for emptying your fridge for the cause, Mary Lee. Dragon has never eaten so well... perhaps you will be spared so that you can be his nutritionist!

  4. How clever is the succotash couplet?! A quirky surprise! And one only a health-conscious poet could come up with. Maybe an inspiration for us all to eat better??

  5. We just don't get to use the word succotash enough in daily conversation. Thanks for serving it to us today, Mary Lee!

    1. Oops, the succotash is from Penny. But I'll take Mary Lee's free-range eggs to go with it! :)

  6. Green living at my house, too, but not quite the same as at Mary Lee's. (Nor is my rhyme kosher!)

"Best if used by" is only a suggestion, sooo...
it's possible the cheese may cause indigestion.
