DMC: "Happy" by Irene Latham
HAPPY
She spins
like a merry-go-round,
she climbs every tree.
She's a busy, buzzy bumblebee.
She's a red balloon
drifting across blue sky.
She's a pair of polka-dotted rainboots
worn during a dry July.
She sings, she smiles.
Sometimes she curls up
with sleeping crocodiles.
SNAP!
She disappears for a while.

This skips across he page. I love the polka-dotted boots. My youngest granddaughter wears he "pink" boots often, and we never have rain! Happy smiles here in your poem! Thanks, Irene and Michelle.
ReplyDeleteHa! Yes, watch out for that snap. What a lively poem that must be read out loud. Good for giggles but there is truth there for sure.
ReplyDeleteOh, those crocodiles!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a happy-go-lucky frolic... until that surprise ending. (:-O) Love it, Irene!
ReplyDeleteWishing everyone happy rain boots… And not crocodiles! xo
ReplyDeleteSkipping along with Happy & then...
ReplyDeletemy polk dots go flying into the japing jaw of a Southern reptilian!
Irene, you have captured the ephemeral truth of Happy in this one. Brava.
. . .
Michelle, I can't do any more with what I've produced from the personification prompt & intend to post very soon.
Jeannine, Because of Today's Little Ditty letting me know about you, I am pleased to have found my own copy of BORROWED NAMES (on my book table now.) I am anticipating curling up in a chair to meet Rose, A'Lelia & Irene & see how they relate to their famous Mothers.
Lovely. I hope she comes back soon!
ReplyDelete*Snap* This made me smile. =)
ReplyDeleteThis poem makes me happy...need to find me a pair of polka dotted rain boots!
ReplyDeleteSuch a clever ending, Irene. One of my students twirled into my class and said, "When you have a positive attitude, every day is your birthday!" Made my Monday morning a happy place. Thanks for this happy poem to top it off.
ReplyDeleteThis is a delightful poem by Irene. It makes me feel happy as Irene intended it to do. What a great ending.
