DMC: "Buried Treasure" by Buffy Silverman

BURIED TREASURE

Nestled among stones
beach glass sparkles,

telling a tale of sand, waves,
            sand, waves,
sand, waves,

until it settled here
waiting for eager fingers
and a pocket-ride home.

  1. This is just lovely, Buffy! Reading it was like a mini-vacation. It makes me smile to think of all the different kinds of treasure–frosted glass, shells, pebbles, driftwood– holding out for the right "eager fingers and a pocket-ride home."

  5. Beautiful, and makes me remember a piece I found on the Chesapeake Bay last year, and it took a "pocket-ride" home too.

  8. Thanks for all the kind comments--they make me feel smooth and warm (like beach glass!)

  9. Love "pocket ride"! Great turn of phrase. The repetition works as the waves smoothing the glass. Thanks for such a well-crafted poem.
