DMC: "Just Because: A Haiku Sequence" by Diane Mayr

Just Because: A Haiku Sequence

office coat closet
a heart-shaped chocolate
in each pocket

leaving a broken
flower pot for the toad
...April sun

"Hot-Cross Buns"
endured with smiles
end-of-year concert

summer swelter
the sprinkler
left on

late October
green tomato relish
at her door

butcher remembers
to save suet for them
first snow

Rebecca M. Davis has challenged us to write poems about acts of kindness this month– the more specific and vivid the better.  Click HERE for more details.

Send your poem to TodaysLittleDitty (at) gmail (dot) com, or use the contact form in the sidebar to the right. All contributions will be included in a wrap-up celebration on Friday, November 27th, and one lucky participant will win copies of two delightful picture books published by Boyds Mills Press: THIS ORQ. (HE CAVE BOY.) and THIS ORQ. (HE SAY "UGH!") by David Elliott, illustrated by Lori Nichols.

  1. Thanks, Michelle, for featuring my haiku today. I'm posting an illustrated version tomorrow for Poetry Friday at Random Noodling.

    1. Thank YOU, Diane. I love how you carry us through the year with these small acts of kindness— it's a nice reminder to always be on the lookout for them. Looking forward to seeing the illustrated version tomorrow!

  2. The small kindnesses, sometimes unnoticed by others except the receiver, warm life don't they? Thank you for reminding us, Diane. Each haiku brings a smile.

  3. Very nice! As Linda said, it's the 'small kindnesses' often go unnoticed. Well done, Diane!

  4. Love the random acts of kindness haiku - two of my favorite things! =)

  5. The toad hole in the flower pot is my favorite -- and an act of kindness too.

    1. I was wondering if anyone would understand the toad one.

  6. Aw, love it, D. Jet

  7. I'm reading this on Saturday, after the Paris attacks & it has so lifted my spirits.
I sought out your theme, Michelle, for balm.
Diane's Haiu lovely moments are few words, giving us a huge gift.

    1. Take comfort in the fact that we are all in this together.
