THE CIRCLE OF LIFE
We were born near blue oceans—
Green sea turtles emerging from eggs
Flipper digging brown-white sands
Following footsteps of other turtles
Into blue rolling waters
Oceans of squids and krill
Blue whales emerging into light
From deep purple depth into light
Oceans of seaweed and seahorses
We were born in lakes
Shimmering lakes—
Lakes of bluegills and pink waterlilies
Buzzing purple-green wing water nymphs
We were born near lakes
Lakes of water spiders and minnows
Blue herons standing in
Lakes of seagulls and bass
We were born in rivers
Rivers of tadpoles and salamanders
Rainbow troughs
Rivers of ducks and crayfish
We were born on the land
Deer running through fields
Drinking from rivers
We were born in the forest
Firs, oak and ash
We breathe life into the air
oak and ash
We were born in the sky
Blue-blue sky
Eagle soaring

All contributions will be included in a wrap-up celebration on Friday, April 29th, and one lucky participant will win a copy of her fantastic new collection of reverso poems based on Greek myths:
Lovely, Jessica! I like the "flow" between stanzas and circling back to blue at the end.
ReplyDeleteThank you Michelle this was a wonderful learning experience for me weighting this poem for Marilyn challenge
DeleteIt's a beautifully creative way to respond to "echo", Jessica. I love all the images you've included.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful. The repetition works perfectly.
ReplyDeleteNice imagery here, and I like the repetition of the color blue, which ties it together.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it. Filled with wonderful images. It's the kind of poem you wish you would have written. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute sea turtle drawing! And the repeated (echoed) line of "we were born" makes this poem flow like the water it speaks of.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much every one for your positive and encoring comments I'm looking to reading some of your poems for this challenge :)
