DMC: "What the Dino saw (when he visited the library)" by Kate O'Neil

What the Dino saw (when he visited the library)

Oh no! I can't believe it.
I'm not in any books.
It's such a shame because I have
such stunning dino looks.

I know I'm on the small side—
the time warp is to blame—
I shrank across the centuries
I passed through as I came

to see the distant future—
to see how Earth would change.
But what a shock this gives me—
something's really strange

for all my friends are listed here
but there's no sign of me.
I'm in a state of crisis
with no identity.

It's bad enough to realise
the dinos all died out.
But who am I? What does it mean?
I think, yet I'm in doubt.

My world has crumbled round me.
I'll make this quite succinct—
Instead of never having been,
I'd rather be extinct.

Click HERE to read this month's interview with Deborah Bruss and Matt Forrest Esenwine. They've challenged us to write a poem about something you would not expect a dinosaur (or another kind of animal) to do.

Leave your poem on our April 2018 padlet. While some contributions will be featured as daily ditties this month, all contributions will be included in a wrap-up celebration on Friday, April 27th, and one lucky participant will win a personalized copy of their fun new rhyming picture book from POW! 1. Your imagination is something else, Kate. Love the time warp shrinkage, and "I think, yet I'm in doubt" cracks me up every time! I'm thinking Descartes must have been a dinosaur in a previous life. LOL

  2. Wonderful rhythm and storyline. Michelle is right about the imagination, your "what if?" is awesome. Love that 'time warp shrinking" idea.
