"Eye of the beholder" by Tim Kirman |
"Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us, or we find it not."
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
At the beginning of November, Carol Hinz challenged us to write a poem that finds beauty in something not usually considered beautiful.
It's a marvelous quest, isn't it?
Even if we carried this challenge over December and into the new year, I doubt that we would run short of poetry. So many wonderful poems graced the padlet this month! Far more than I had opportunity to feature as daily ditties. I hope you'll take your time with this collection—it may yield you some fresh perspective... and throw in a few oohs and ahhs for good measure.

Thank you to everyone who contributed a poem, commented, or followed along, and thanks most especially to Carol Hinz for encouraging us to take this journey to find the beautiful.
As Emerson said, the rest is up to us. I know it's a challenge I'll carry with me.
Would you like to write a poem that finds beauty in something not usually considered beautiful?

Many thanks to everyone who came by last week to help me celebrate the launch of The Best of Today's Little Ditty 2016! I was touched by so many expressions of support and congratulations, and raised a toast to you at my Thanksgiving table.

So much beauty to be found in this collection,Michelle. It is hard to choose a favourite.
ReplyDeleteI finally wrote a poem to this challenge yesterday after a walk in City Park in New Orleans. We came upon some amazing graffiti. I tried to post in the padlet but I couldn't get it to work. Here's a link: https://reflectionsontheteche.com/2017/11/24/poetry-friday-graffiti-girl/
ReplyDeleteNever mind. I was clicking the wrong padlet link. Got it now. Thanks.
DeleteThank YOU, Michelle, for all your good works and for the ways you give yourself to the world. xo
ReplyDeleteI jumped over to the padlet and read all of the poems. Wow! So much beauty! I so admire all of you who do this writing every month! Thanks for hosting this monthly challenge!
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle! I hope you had a happy Thanksgiving! I can't believe it's the end of the month already! Yikes! Fortunately, I completed my challenge poem early this month!
ReplyDeleteCarol's challenge has made us look and look again, and so much 'beauty' emerged. Thanks for each month's wonders, Michelle and all poets who wrote, too. I enjoyed the unique poems today!
ReplyDeleteAmazing that a brief challenge by Carol Hinz brought forth such a gorgeous celebration of the the little and big things in life. You are creating something special here, Michelle.
ReplyDeleteSo many wonderful words and images in this month's collection--love the beauty found. (And I added mine to the pad let--thanks for the reminder, Michelle.)
ReplyDeleteAnother fabulous ditty challenge! So glad I slipped under the wire!
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle, this sure is a rich collection, I agree too many to choose from. I loved all the images that were included with the poems. BTW I didn't happen to see my poem that I submitted on Nov. 10th so I added it again in your padlet. I attached it at the bottom and it's called DEAR DARLING CENTIPEDE. Thanks for putting this all together!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry your poem never showed up on the padlet earlier this month, Michelle! As far as I know, that's the first time that's happened. I noticed that I hadn't seen anything from you this month, but just assumed it was because you were busy. :(
DeleteNo worries, perhaps I didn't press something correctly after I entered it. It was a fun challenge!
DeleteLove this concept and reading where poets found beauty. Well done, all.
ReplyDeleteSo much loveliness wrapped up in surprising packages. I was struck by how many poems addressed death and rebirth--especially in gardening terms. There is so much comfort in the cycle of life and death and life again.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic challenge. It encouraged so many beautiful results.
ReplyDeleteWow - what a range of subjects and emotions! Great assemblage this month. I was particularly smitten with Buffy's "Old Cherry," Keri's "Sharing," Rebekah's "True Whole" and Kay's "Cane Toad Chorus" (along with Juanita's gorgeous "Oxblood Red" you featured today) - but it was wonderful reading them all.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful collection -- evokes such a broad spectrum of emotions! Congratulations to everyone who contributed! I got wrapped up in work deadlines and holiday prep this month, and didn't get much writing done. Hoping I can rise to the challenge in December!
