Laura Shovan has challenged us to write persona poems this month. Click HERE for more details. You don't need to include the artwork that inspired your poem, but you are welcome to as long as I can properly attribute the artist/photographer.
Send your poem to TodaysLittleDitty (at) gmail (dot) com, or use the contact form in the sidebar to the right. All contributions will be included in a wrap-up celebration on Friday, May 27th, and one lucky participant will win a personalized copy of her fantastic new verse novel for middle grade readers:
Thanks for featuring my poem today, Michelle!
ReplyDeleteI love the story of two friends you built from this image, Diane.
DeleteYes, what Laura said, Diane. Don't ask me why, but the relationship reminds me of George Burns and his wife Gracie. Thanks for showing us all how its done. :)
ReplyDeleteIt feels as if you've allowed us to eavesdrop on a conversation that might happen more than we could imagine. The picture offers one thought, a picture book story, but I also imagine two women whispering to each other, learning about their new country's words. Love it, Diane.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be an interesting twist if they were alien robots?
ReplyDeleteDiane, you have given us such an evocative starting place!
Interesting idea, Tabatha, but I couldn't do any better than Jeanne Willis' "Professor Xargle" picture books published back in the late 80s and 90s. If you're not familiar with them, see if your local public library has them or can ILL them for you. Look for one of these: Earthlets, as explained by Professor Xargle; Earth tigerlets as explained by Professor Xargle; Earth hounds as explained by Professor Xargle; and Earth weather as explained by Professor Xargle.
DeleteHahaha--I love what you've shown us both about these two people and their relationship. Funny and lovely at the same time! (I can't wait to read Laura's book.)
ReplyDeleteThis is fun, Diane.
