DMC: "What Does the Knife Know?" by Heidi Mordhorst
WHAT DOES THE KNIFE KNOW?
What does the knife know?
Red tautness of tomato's skin.
Garlic's shallot's onion's kin.
Juicy slick of vitamin.
Jolt of pit or stone within.
What does the knife know?
Tender coarseness of the crumb.
Whack of steel on boarden drum.
Whorl and loop don't armor thumb.
Better bleeding cut than numb.

Send your wise words to TodaysLittleDitty (at) gmail (dot) com, or use the contact form in the sidebar to the right. All contributions will be included in a wrap-up celebration this Friday, January 30th, and one lucky participant will receive an autographed copy of Joyce's gorgeous new collection of children's poetry:

ReplyDeleteShe sure is, Mary Lee! Thank you for participating this month, Heidi. This poem is so sensory-rich, I can feel, touch, taste it oozing all over my plate.
ReplyDeleteWow, Heidi, this is terrific, that "whorl and loop don't armor thumb" is so pleasing at the end.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Heidi! I too love that whorl and loop line, and the jolt of pit or stone within.
ReplyDeleteLove this example from Heidi. I am still trying to dig deep into deeper wisdom poetry but coming up short.
