WREN
A tiny wren searches
the cracks
the crevices
the low and
beneath-our-notice
places
the crawl and creep places
the afraid-of-
the-dark places

Thank you for submitting a poem this month, Steve. I've been captivated by so many of your beautiful poems of presence, including this one. I love how you paint the picture of this tiny wren being much braver than his size would suggest. I also appreciate the reminder that there is beauty and wonder in things that are not even on our radar.
ReplyDeleteI have a tiny wren that I watch at a huge old cottonwood right by my home, just searching as you wrote, Steve. I love the alliteration, makes reading it aloud like the movement of that wren. And, I love the end, a new thought!
ReplyDeleteMichelle,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for featuring this poem on your blog AND for pulling together some of the poems that poets have posted on Twitter. This project has been a fun one for me as a writer and a reader!
Many thanks!

See, I missed this one on Twitter, although I've enjoyed so many from you, Steve! I like the repetition of "places" along with the initial "crevices." Makes me wish I could picture a wren...
ReplyDeleteAll the ways to describe the little spots, the tiny places, those so easily ignored. But if we look, watch, wonder and maybe find what little bits could fill us if we only searched. I like your poem, Steve.
