DAILY SQUIRREL
This squirrel knows where I live.
This squirrel knows who I am.
Every day
he seems to say,
"I'd like one peanut, ma'am."
He stares into my house.
He stares and scratches fleas.
Every day
he seems to say,
"Ahem? One peanut, please."

Click HERE to read this month's interview with Julie Fogliano. She has challenged us to stare out the window and write a poem about what we see. You might even consider writing something down every day for a week:
At the end of the week, read through what you wrote and write your favorite bits on a separate piece of paper. I bet there will be a poem in there somewhere… see if you can find it. – J. F.Leave your poem on our May 2018 padlet. While some contributions will be featured as daily ditties this month, all contributions will be included in a wrap-up celebration this Friday, May 25th, and one lucky participant will win a personalized copy of her stunning new picture book from Roaring Brook Press:
What a great picture! You wrote the perfect poetic accompaniment. I especially love the "ahem"-- It adds just the right note! Thanks for starting my day with a smile!
ReplyDeleteOh Suzy, leave it to you to capture this little taste of ditty brilliance! Alas (or fortunately?), our squirrels aren't nearly as brazen... or as chunky. :D
ReplyDeleteThis is so charming! I think that little furry Oliver Twist has been hanging around my window too.
ReplyDeleteThanks!! The squirrels in my neighborhood are fuzzy little evil geniuses, no question. :)
ReplyDeleteHa! Your squirrel knows a good food source when he sees one... Thanks for the morning chuckle.
ReplyDeleteReally fun poem, Suzy. I like the sense of menace that you create with the idea that the squirrel knows who you are and where you live. A peanut/day seems a small price to keep this gangster at bay... but what if he ups the ante?
ReplyDeleteSo, so cute. I also love the "ahem." I think your squirrel's brother lives at my house.
ReplyDeleteMy squirrels show up when I go out the door, but so far do not peek in. Love your picture and the poem about your very polite squirrel who says "Ahem? One peanut, please." Love it!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, thanks for the smile Suzy!
ReplyDeleteAhem, this squirrel is a cheeky fella, both literally and figuratively. Perfectly 'nutty' poem, Suzy! =)
ReplyDeleteHahaha! So perfect, Suzy! I know this squirrel's cousin!
ReplyDeleteSuzy, this is wonderful. Funny picture, that is exactly what he is saying.
ReplyDeleteI think his cousin is at my house! Fun poem Suzy.
