DMC: "Ice" by Elizabeth Steinglass
ICE
Ice is a disappearing word.
Hard and sparkling,
you hold it in your hand.
It bites back,
demanding you put it down,
but if you persist
it gives in,
slowly dribbling
through your fingers.

I'm quite taken with this poem, Liz– thank you. Call me strange (you wouldn't be the first), but it sort of makes me want to keep a cube as a pet.
ReplyDeleteVivid verbs, Liz! I can feel it :-)
ReplyDeleteHow that ice cube bites, but on a hot day, nothing like it mixed with lemon. Mmm.
ReplyDeleteThis is terrific. I love the personification of the ice -- biting and demanding. Nicely done, Liz.
ReplyDeleteLove it, Liz!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Liz!
ReplyDeleteLove the biting, demanding, and dribbling of the ice cube!
