DMC: "Autumn Tanka" by Rosi Hollinbeck
Autumn Tanka
chilled winds chase summer
horsetail clouds etch azure skies
showy leaves float free
chevrons of geese sail above
winter knocks at the window

Margarita Engle has challenged us to write a tanka this month. She suggests we think of it as a five-line travel diary about a subject of our choice. Click HERE for more details.
Send your tanka to TodaysLittleDitty (at) gmail (dot) com, or use the contact form in the sidebar to the right. All contributions will be included in a wrap-up celebration this Friday, March 27th. One lucky participant will win an autographed copy of Margarita's delightful new picture book:
We're still waiting for summer, but I don't mind the reminder of autumn's loveliness, Rosi. You've shown autumn in all its delights. I love "showy leaves" and "knocking at the window".
ReplyDeleteThis tanka is so evocative, Rosi! My favorite image is the galloping wind, with its horsetail clouds.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove this, especially "winter knocks at the window."
ReplyDeleteThanks for featuring my poem, Michelle! It's fun to see it here. Thanks for the kind comments, everyone.
ReplyDeleteNice Tanka! I like all these lines. It's hard to pick a favorite. You do capture the magic of autumn (which is my favorite season.)
ReplyDeleteSweet poem! I especially enjoyed the "chevrons of geese" since I'm currently waiting for them to point north...I hope, I hope, I hope.
ReplyDeleteLovely language & imagery, Rosi!
ReplyDeleteVivid imagery! Love the idea of winter knocking on the window. Well done, Rosi!
ReplyDeleteLovely! I can feel and see winter in those short 5 lines. Love the showy leaves, the chevrons of geese, well, all of it! Beautiful work, Rosi.
ReplyDeleteLOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Original, beautiful imagery. Fantastic job!
ReplyDeleteSo graceful, Rosi. I can smell the fall air. I too appreciate the imagery of "chevrons of geese" sailing above. I can hear them honking.
ReplyDeleteI love the verbs in this . . . so active. Lovely!
