DMC: "Dear Elephant" by Leane Gill
Dear Elephant,
I'd like to have those ears that flap, to cool my body down.
'Cause when it's hot and sticky, I'm not fun to be around.
My brother, he can wiggle his, but mine won't move at all.
Maybe you can teach me on my zoo field trip this fall?
Sincerely, A flap-less Chap

David Elliott has challenged us to write a letter poem this month. I'm still looking for a few more to feature as this week's daily ditties! Click HERE for details on how to participate.
RSVP with your poem to TodaysLittleDitty (at) gmail (dot) com, or use the contact form in the sidebar to the right. All contributions will be included in a wrap-up celebration this Friday, February 27th, and one lucky participant will win a personalized copy of David's delightful new collection of bird poetry:
A delightful ditty, Leane! I would love to have an elephant teach me to wiggle my ears too. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle!
DeleteGreat job, Leane.
ReplyDeleteThank-you Monica!
DeleteCute poem, Leane, and fun to read aloud! I wish I had time to participate!
ReplyDeleteThank-you Maria! There does seem to be a universal shortage of time to do what we love! :)
DeleteThis is very cute. I like the letter poems and hope to try this myself. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rosi! This was my first time trying a letter poem. I actually didn't know they existed until I read Michelle's blog post challenge by David Elliot. It was fun!
DeleteCharming, I'm still grinning! Elephants are a favorite critter of mine. Also loved your flap-less chap.
ReplyDeleteThank-you Michelle, so glad it brought a grin. Prior to writing the poem, I thought the ears flapping were much like the horse's tail and mostly swatted flies etc. I had no idea they functioned to regulate temp. Also, my little brother can wiggle his ears. It drove me crazy that I couldn't until I was at least 10! :)
DeleteAdorable! I love the voice in this poem.
ReplyDeleteThank-you Renee! I'm considering signing up for your class at some point this year!
