DMC: "Fly's Time" by Randi Sonenshine

FLY'S TIME

Here lies Fly, who wasn’t clever.
He made the worst decision ever.
Lunch with Spider sounded swell.
He left this world an empty shell.

Click HERE to read this month's interview with J. Patrick Lewis and Jane Yolen. They have challenged us to write an epitaph poem—a funny or clever verse that might appear on your chosen subject's tombstone.

Post your poem on our February 2018 padlet. While some contributions will be featured as daily ditties this month, all contributions will be included in a wrap-up celebration on Friday, February 23rd, and one lucky participant will win a copy of their morbidly humorous collection from Charlesbridge:

  1. Perfection--for the spider and the reader. Poor Fly. :)

  2. A mournful ditty, just right. It would be great to show kids how much science is in these four lines!

  3. Hope you don't mind that I chose your deliciously morbid epitaph for Valentine's Day, Randi! That's the way I roll. :)

    1. Of course not! I'm delighted. This was actually inspired by one of my Madness Poetry entries. I tried to share a link, but it didn't work!

  10. Fly may not be clever, but your epitaph is--thanks for the chuckle, Randi.

  11. Posting this for Jane...

I am so taken with these ditties, I decided to honor them by playing along. Please don't take the little additions awry. Or maybe taken them with a slug of rye. (Me I drink sparkling the water!)

As an addendum to Randi's little brilliant (as always) four lines:

And now he is a great celeb,
Hanging in the World Wide Web.
